RARE Augustine Manuscript - Early 11th Century - 1,000 Years Old - Sermon 71
This is an incredible and large manuscript from Augustine’s Sermon 71. It dates to the 11th century and is likely from Italy. I worked with Eugenio Donadoni at Christie’s and he confirmed that that information is correct. It measures 16 inches tall at its highest point and 11 inches wide.
Text: This Latin manuscript is a text attributed to St. Augustine of Hippo, specifically from one of his theological works. Based on the content, it is related to "Sermon 71" or In Iohannis euangelium tractatus (CPL 0278), tract. 40, § 4
Dating: We are confident that this is dated to the early 11th century.
Region: This manuscript was produced in Italy.
Origin: Maggs Brothers 1987. The Marvin L. Colker Collection, London.
