For sale is a collection of 8 genuine ancient papyrus fragments, dating from approximately 30 BC to AD 400, inscribed with Demotic text in black ink. Demotic was the everyday script of ancient Egypt for several centuries, used for legal contracts, accounts, letters, and religious writings. It famously appears on the Rosetta Stone alongside Greek and hieroglyphs, playing a key role in deciphering the ancient Egyptian language.
These fragments have been reviewed by Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, and a member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition.
• Size: approx. various ranging from 2cm up to 17cm (see photos)Provenance: Private UK collection; Ex. Dr. Ulrich Miler collection, Switzerland, 1970s.
• Authenticity: These fragments have been checked against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter for the original collection.
