This exquisite vellum leaf comes from a late 15th-century Book of Hours produced in the Low Countries. Written in Middle Dutch in a Gothic hand, it features a large illuminated initial “S” in blue with intricate white filigree and colorful red-green foliate decoration. Red rubrics introduce the text, and the scribe’s black ink remains crisp and dark.
Likely used in private devotion, this page preserves part of a passage referring to St. Augustine, making it both a spiritual and historical treasure. A rare example of vernacular religious literature in the medieval Netherlands, perfect for collectors of devotional manuscripts.
