A monumental manuscript leaf from a medieval choirbook written on vellum and containing Gregorian chant notation for the liturgy of Palm Sunday and Holy Week. The text is written in Latin in a Gothic hand with large square neumes on four-line red staves. The heading In Palmis identifies the liturgical use as Palm Sunday, while the surviving text includes portions of Passion-related chants derived from Psalm 68 (69), among the most important texts of Holy Week worship.
The leaf features a decorative penwork initial and was originally intended for use by a choir singing from a shared lectern. Its exceptional size allowed multiple singers to read the music simultaneously during the liturgy.
