This authentic medieval bronze signet ring dates to approximately AD 1000–1200 and features an engraved stylized bird motif within an oval bezel. The piece originates from a documented group of medieval bronze rings handled by Apollo Art Auctions Ltd.
The ring is formed with a tapering hoop and oval bezel engraved with a bird rendered in linear strokes. Such personal signet or decorative rings were commonly worn in the High Middle Ages and could function as markers of identity, status, or personal symbolism. The simplified avian design reflects the geometric engraving style characteristic of medieval metalwork of this period.
According to the accompanying documentation for the group, the ring derives from a late 1990s UK private collection and was later acquired through the London ancient art market. The type is published in J. Bagot, Elegance in Hephaestus: A Memorial to a Private Collection of Ancient Rings and Glyptics.
The surface displays expected age-related patination and wear consistent with genuine medieval bronze artifacts. The engraving remains clearly visible, and the ring presents well for display or study.
Please note: due to lighting and photography, the ring appears somewhat lighter in the images. In hand, the bronze patina presents darker and richer in tone.
A Certificate of Authenticity from Apollo Art Auctions can be provided upon request.
